Mental Health Treatment

When a young adult is suffering from a mental health disorder they may initially believe that they are alone with their condition.  On the contrary, one in five—20%—of young adults between the ages of 18-25 experienced a mental health disorder in the period of 2010-2012, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.  With the onset of 75% of adult mental health conditions occurring by age 24, it is important to recognize the signs of mental distress in our young people and get them the timely treatment they deserve.

Thankfully, because of strides in modern medicine many mental health disorders can be adequately managed, allowing individuals with mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder to live full lives.  Targeted medications combined with psychotherapy, group counseling, support groups, and family therapy are intrinsic to the efforts to overcome a mental health disorder—but not enough.  Over and above those basic mental health treatment elements, the young adult must first find purpose in life.

Launch Centers Mental Health Experts

Early adulthood is a challenging time of life.  The “Quarter-life Crisis” has become ubiquitous among twenty-somethings, that angst-filled life phase punctuated by feelings of anxiety and depression.  When a mood disorder begins to invade all aspects of a young adult’s life it is time to get some help.

The experts at Launch Centers have identified a common thread among its young adult clients who suffer from a mood disorder—a lack of direction in life, a sense of hopelessness and despair, and general malaise.  While an organic mental health disorder can result in these symptoms, in some cases the feelings of being adrift, with no plan and no focus, can also result in the symptoms of a mood disorder.

Young adults need a plan, some kind of a road map to motivate them towards goals and dreams.  Each individual has their own unique set of gifts and skill set, so no two plans will look the same.  It is empowering for a young person to participate in the creation of a custom blueprint that will lead them to the fulfillment of aspirations.  Launch Centers, therefore, integrates educational and vocational elements into the treatment plans for young adults with a mental health challenge.
