Therapeutic Modalities In Los Angeles
Throughout your treatment for mental health and substance use disorders, you will likely undergo some type of psychotherapy. While on the outside, therapy might look the same for everyone, your therapist can use a different approach, or modality, best suited to your needs. At Launch Centers, we offer a variety of therapeutic modalities in Los Angeles, CA, for young adults in recovery from addiction and mental health concerns.
Clinical Therapeutic Modalities
Launch provides a variety of services to address the individual needs of each client, from mental health struggles to substance abuse, and life skills development. Our therapeutic modalities provide Launch clients with the best possible chance at long term success of living a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle. Our counseling team consists of highly skilled professionals who use effective techniques, current evidence-based modalities, and we provide a drug and alcohol-free environment to promote healthy and productive learning in a structured setting. Each young adult is assigned a personal therapist who works directly with them through the duration of the program.
Additionally, every young adult will be given support and guidance from our Director of Education & Career on plans for pursuing education or finding a career that really sparks a passion within them.
Creating Long-Term Success
In our experience, we have found that clients who leave treatment with a sense of passion and purpose tend to stay sober longer and leave with a higher sense of self-esteem. It’s easier to stay on the path of recovery when you have found something that really speaks to you. Our attention to life skills development also lends itself to long-term recovery. Day to day activities such as tracking bills, looking for an apartment, or trying to find a job can seem intensely overwhelming for the average person, so it is understandable that people struggling to succeed struggle with these day to day tasks as well. We believe learning these simple life skills are just as important to a client’s treatment plan. It helps them reenter the world more confident and prepared.
Coupled with life skills, the following are examples of the types of therapy we offer at Launch Centers:
What Are The 3 Types of Therapeutic Modalities?
Therapeutic modalities refer to the different approaches or methods used in therapy to help individuals with mental health issues, emotional difficulties, and behavioral problems. There are three main types of therapeutic modalities used in addiction recovery: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Experiential Therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is the most widely used therapeutic modality because of its extreme effectiveness in treating depression and anxiety disorders in adults and adolescents. In cases of mild to moderate depression, some patients may benefit from CBT alone and not need to take antidepressant drugs. Studies have found that alone, CBT is just as effective as antidepressants in mild to moderate cases of depression. For severe cases, a combination of CBT and medication is most effective. In depressed patients, CBT helps reduce relapse rates in patients who have experienced multiple relapses despite completing other forms of treatment.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
One of the unique aspects of DBT is that it focuses on accepting the patient’s experiences in life. For people who struggle with self-destructive behaviors and suicidal thoughts, invalidation of their struggles is harmful. Unfortunately, having one’s experiences, emotions, and perceptions invalidated is all too common. In DBT, a therapist will try to validate the patient by accepting their experiences, which reassures them and gives them confidence with the treatment. More importantly, the therapy helps patients learn how to accept their feelings on their own, which helps with long-term recovery.

Experiential Therapy
When it comes to mental health and substance abuse treatment, clinical and behavioral therapy aren’t the only options. Instead of relying on medication and talk therapy alone, many addiction and mental health professionals incorporate experiential therapy into their treatment programs. Experiential therapy is an evidenced-based modality proven to be effective throughout the addiction recovery process and can help individuals obtain long-term sobriety.

Trauma-Informed Therapies
Operating within Launch Centers’ therapeutic modalities in Los Angeles is trauma-informed care. Trauma-informed care accounts for clients’ traumatic experiences and the impact these experiences have on their mental health.
Trauma-informed CBT or DBT is therapy that operates on the assumption that the client has experienced trauma in their past and takes pains to avoid re-traumatizing or “triggering” the client while in treatment. Some common traumatic experiences include:
- Physical assault
- Sexual assault
- Natural disasters (tornado, hurricane, fire, or flood)
- The witnessing of physical or sexual assault on another person
- Sudden death of a loved one or trusted caregiver
- Hospitalization
Trauma can mean different things to different people. A person’s experience of, and response to, a traumatic event cannot be predicted. However, when done well, trauma-informed therapy empowers clients to collaborate in their treatment, helping them feel safe, comfortable, and respected. Launch Centers considers trauma-informed care to be an essential component across all its therapeutic modalities in Los Angeles.
