Megan Hanson, LMFT
Megan Hanson, LMFT, has an extensive background building community based health and nutrition programs for adults and adolescents in San Francisco and South Los Angeles. Her work with incarcerated adults, high school students, and families living in underserved communities heavily influences her current work as a therapist. After earning a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University focusing on trauma and community psychology, Megan began formal training as a therapist at Vista Del Mar Family Services in Los Angeles, where she worked with high school youth struggling with post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, psychosis, and various social, emotional, and learning challenges. In 2014, Megan worked with youth and families under the supervision of the Chief Mental Health Officer at Girls Inc. in Oakland CA, where she received training in Trauma-focused CBT. Additionally, Megan has worked with adolescents with dual diagnoses and their families in Los Angeles.
Megan is particularly interested in systems work. Her approach is informed by various social and developmental theories that help identify the various and often complex factors that may influence a client’s current state. Starting with the assumption that each person’s challenges and resistances are closely linked with important strengths, Megan works with clients to help them better understand and manage their own behavioral patterns in relation to situations, substances, emotional states and other people.
