Ultimately, an Educational Consultant is designed to get to know a student and his or her family to acquire a solid understanding of their needs and educational goals; recommend additional testing if they feel it is necessary; acquire and use their extensive knowledge of different schools and programs to match their clients with the best facility; encourage a student to take ownership of his or her strengths, weaknesses, and interests; and find different ways to support those strengths, weaknesses, and interests by recommending specific schools and programs that address their needs and can offer a supportive, appropriate learning environment accordingly. 10 Worst Colleges with a Drug Problem

College: a special place and time in a young person’s life full of newfound independence, self-discovery, and experimentation with different interests, lifestyles, and hobbies. Unfortunately, drugs and alcohol tend to play a role in these experimental stages for many young college students, and the consequences of such involvement can be devastating and even deadly for some. Different college campuses have earned reputations for being “party schools”, where student-run social events involving drugs and alcohol (parties) tend take place more frequently and experience a higher level of participation among the student population. Other colleges are notorious for hosting a student body that experiences higher rates of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction as evidenced by the number of drug and alcohol related arrests as well as information provided by students. A number of different organizations have attempted to classify college campuses in the United States according to various statistics as “party schools”, or colleges with the highest rates of drug and alcohol related arrests.

The Princeton Review announced the top ten party schools in the US in August 2015. These schools were ranked from Colgate University of Hamilton, NY as the tenth; Tulane University of Louisiana in New Orleans, LA as the ninth; University of Georgia in Athens, GA as the eighth; West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV as the seventh; University of California-Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, CA as the sixth; Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY as the fifth; Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA as the fourth; University of Wisconsin-Madison in Madison, WI as the third; University of Iowa in Iowa, IA as the second; and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, IL as the number one party school in the United States. This report was put together based on students’ responses to different surveys that the Princeton Review conducted. While these schools have been ranked as the top ten party schools, suggesting that their students like to socialize, drink, and have a good time, this does not necessarily mean that their students all have alcohol and/or drug abuse and addiction problems.

Another report collected data about the top ten colleges in the United States with the highest number of alcohol and drug arrests for every 1,000 students. Florida State University was ranked as the tenth college on the list, with 11.91 drug and/or alcohol related arrests for every 1,000 students; University of Louisiana at Monroe ranked as the ninth, with 12.33 arrests; University of New Hampshire ranked as the eighth, with 12.41 arrests; University of Minnesota-Duluth took seventh place, with 14.13 arrests; Western Illinois University holds the sixth place, with 15.17 arrests; University of Colorado-Boulder was fifth, with 15.86 arrests; West Chester University was fourth, with 17.52 arrests; University of Wisconsin-La Crosse ranked third, with 20.06 arrests; University of Wisconsin-Stout ranked second, with 20.83 arrests; and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh had the greatest number of drug and/or alcohol related arrests with 22.41 arrests for every 1,000 students according to information presented by the Office of Post-Secondary Education 2011 database.

Some students are drawn to the “party schools” due to the promise of an exciting social life and plenty of opportunities to drink and/or experiment with drugs. However, the risk of addiction, declining academic performance, social problems, drug and/or alcohol related injury or disorders, and legal issues as evidenced by the list of schools with the highest number of drug and/or alcohol arrests are serious potential consequences of involvement with alcohol and/or drugs in college. It is important to seek support if you believe you have a problem with alcohol or drugs before these consequences take effect, and many campuses across the nation offer access to support groups and counseling for their students to get help with substance abuse or related issues.
